Why do Bad Things Happen to Good People?

It has been a while since I have written here.  Sometimes life happens. We get busy with kids, school, summer, vacations, deaths in the family and who knows what else.  My life is crazy and busy. But, I am going to try harder to write on the Talbert Zoo more often.  I have “Publish to the Talbert Zoo,” on my to-do list for Mondays.  I promise to keep that schedule.  Only time will tell if I can stick with it. Now back to the main topic of this post. Why…

I am Back to Blogging – Happy New Year 2018

I am back! After taking a year off to finish writing my book I am finally back to updating this blog and writing articles for my online magazine, The Healthy Moms Magazine. My manuscript is complete and it is currently going through the editing process. I  will let all of you know when it will be published as soon as I can. I am excited, relieved and nervous about getting my first book published. If it is a success there will be more to come. What have we been up…

Weekend Reflection #40 We are Going to the Moon

This was first posted to the Healthy Moms Magazine on January 11, 2009. Back then I was a mother of three children ages 11, 3 and 1. The Talbert family lived in Sacramento, CA in 2009.   I’m sorry I’m posting this late. This week was pretty busy. I actually stuck with my work plan and blogged for 5-6 hours each day. I saw my traffic go up as a result. Now I know what I need to do to increase my readership on this blog. But, yesterday I decided to…

Wordless Wednesday is live on healthymomsmagazine.net and talbertzoo.com. Link up to your Wordless Wednesday post. Over the weekend we visited Grandma and Grandpa up in Wisconsin to carve Jack o Lanterns. They have an annual pumpkin carving party with all the cousins and my brothers.  This year two of my brothers and their families were able to make it. We had a lot of fun digging into the pumpkins and visiting with family. What did you do over the weekend? If you are participating in Wordless Wednesday scroll down and leave…

The New Healthy Moms Magazine and Other News from the Zoo

September flew by and now we’ve already finished the first week of October. I spent most of my blogging time last month switching my main blog from Blogger over to WordPress, so I haven’t updated this one in a while. Switching platforms on a blog that is 8 years old is not an easy task. I had to make sure I was using a self hosted site from WordPress.org, have a good url, (I ended up changing my URL to reflect the true title of the blog), move all of…

Balancing Family and My Blogs

Ever since my fifth child was born back in 2010, it has been a struggle to find time for my blogs and my family.  I’ve wrote about this several times right here on the Talbert Zoo.  I wrote about how blogging has changed, I sorted my time and priorities, and as a mother of five kids, four with special needs and a husband who works 80+ hours a week, I have had my share of stress, stress and more stress. I’ve been doing this blogging thing for nearly 8 years…

Spokane River Centennial Trail

The city of Spokane, Washington is nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains with the Spokane River winding through the city.  According to SpokaneCentennialTrail.org, “Archaeological research reveals the presence of human life along the Spokane River corridor dating back some 11,400 years. The river has served as a vital source of food, transport, power, irrigation, and religious significance to people representing numerous American Indian tribes and generations of western pioneers. In the early 1900′s the Olmstead Brothers, who were among the nation’s leading park and recreation planners, advised the…

Cold Weather, Halloween and Other News from the Zoo

I think this is just going to be a rant. I haven’t decided what to title this yet. Hopefully I will come up with something before I finish writing this. Kitty’s Jack o’ Lantern I got a new laptop this week and I absolutely love it.  It is an HP Pavilion TouchSmart with Windows 8.  When I was shopping around for new laptops a lot of reviews I read said that if you have Windows 8 you must get a touch screen in order to really use all of Windows…

Moving? Maybe in a Couple of Years

I love the Inland Northwest, except for the climate, but I can share more about that in another post.  We moved here in 2010 a couple months before Little Bear was born.  It took us a long time to unpack because I just had a baby and Chris’ time was consumed by work.  If I could move all over again I think I would do a few things differently. I remember telling myself that once we were in our new home I was going to organize every room and eliminate…
