A Mother Will do Anything for Her Child

This is a true story about what went on in the Talbert Zoo over the past four days.  My life as usual was put on hold because of my three-year-old. Saturday night we got home late from visiting my in-laws in Sacramento for the Fourth of July.  The next day was pretty typical. We went to mass in the morning as a family, got home, and the kids played outside. Chris left that afternoon to train for his new position in Chicago.  After he left, I unpacked from our trip,…

Wordless Wednesday is live on thehealthymoms.net and talbertzoo.com. Last weekend Riverfront Park celebrated their 40th Anniversary and we took the kids there for a final farewell to our favorite park.   My “Aspie” kids, Goose and Parrot A…

Spokane River Centennial Trail

The city of Spokane, Washington is nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains with the Spokane River winding through the city.  According to SpokaneCentennialTrail.org, “Archaeological research reveals the presence of human life along the Spokane River corridor dating back some 11,400 years. The river has served as a vital source of food, transport, power, irrigation, and religious significance to people representing numerous American Indian tribes and generations of western pioneers. In the early 1900′s the Olmstead Brothers, who were among the nation’s leading park and recreation planners, advised the…

Anxiety and Anticipation

Summer is almost here.  Out in Spokane the school year ends a little late.  The last day of school this year is on June 12.  The last couple of weeks are filled with fun activities.  Goose is done taking her end of course exams for the year and is watching movies in all of her classes.  Kitty is practicing for the school talent show which is on June 10. Parrot has been bringing home art projects nearly every single day.  And Monkey has his pre-school graduation party this afternoon.  The…

Is it June Already?

I can not believe that it is June already.  May was so busy that if I blinked I would have missed it.  Here we are welcoming a new month, a new season, and new possibilities for the Talbert Zoo.  Last week I took a couple of days off of blogging.  I was ready to give up on all of my websites and just be a mother and wife. This decision was due to the fact that we learned that there is a 99% chance that we will be moving to…

A Boy and His Hat

Little Bear loves hats. There is his puppy dog hat. And his new puppy dog hat. And his favorite red sun hat. He even takes a nap with his hat. He wears a hat when we go for walks. And while playing outside on the swing set. Bear loves hats. Yesterday, Chris said, “I can not believe I have a hat boy. I never thought I would have a son that always wore hats.  I guess now I know what to get him when I travel.” This morning Little Bear…

Haircuts, a Possible Move and Blogging

This past weekend flew by way too quickly. Why is it that the weekends go fast and the week days are slower than a snail? Maybe it is because my weekends are always filled with a variety of activities, like these: Housework on Saturdays Saturday morning soccer game (Chris took Monkey to his game) Grocery shopping on Saturday afternoons Mass on Sunday morning More shopping on Sunday afternoon Besides doing all of that I managed to fit this in too. Monkey before I gave him a haircut Monkey after Little…

It is Time for New Beginnings

I don’t normally write on the weekends but today the Lord spoke to me and I am inspired with the urge to share. Not only is today Mother’s Day it is also my 36th birthday. On this very special day I have come to realize that I need to listen more, be patient, and open for change.  It is a new beginning, not only for myself but for the whole Talbert family. Yesterday Kitty woke up with a swollen right eye.  She plucked the lashes so much that her eye…

The Latest Stories from the Zoo

These past few weeks have been hectic and crazy but a lot of fun too. I am so glad and relieved that April is over and now I can look forward to warmer temperatures, a somewhat back to normal routine and summer vacation for the kids. A lot has happened here at the Talbert Zoo.  We went on a family vacation to Arizona and soaked up the heat and sunshine. We visited the Grand Canyon and the Painted Dessert. The following weekend we had a quiet Easter celebration with the…

Live Every Day Like it is Your Last

When I woke up this morning I went downstairs, brewed my coffee and turned on the local news like I do every single day.  The first thing I heard on the news was that there was two separate fatal car accidents that occurred earlier that morning.  Traffic in and around Spokane usually isn’t too bad so a car accident of any kind is big news.  It really got me thinking.  The first thing that came to my mind was Tim McGraw’s song, “Live Like You Were Dying.” As my 36th…
