Weekend Reflection #31 – My Kids

I am having a tough time deciding what to write for this week’s “Weekend Reflection” post. I could write more about the economy and how it is hurting families like mine, but I think I’ve covered that enough. I could write about the Presidential election and how angry and frustrated it is getting me. But I think I’ll save that for my new blog, Take Two and Call Me in the Morning. (I’ll keep you all posted on when I’m going to officially launch it.) I could write about my job and how Crossmark is just pushing us around. But that isn’t fun and the layoff date is getting closer and closer so it doesn’t really matter. I think I’m just going to write about my kids.

I have found myself neglecting the little ones and this makes me feel guilty. They constantly crave mommy’s attention but I’m usually busy. They always pull on my legs when I am either folding laundry, cooking dinner or cleaning up after them. I’m the type of person that has to be doing something. I can’t sit still for longer than ten or twenty minutes. I try to get my kids involved in what I am doing but it is challenging to have enough patience for a two year old and a one year old. Today I made a vow that I will spend at least 30 minutes a day playing with my little tots. I spent that time today coloring with Ciara and observing Conan playing. He also attempted to color but decided that the crayons were more fun to eat than use on the paper.

My oldest daughter is busy working on a book report for school. She has to do a written report summarizing the book and defining difficult words from the book. After the written report is complete she has to make a puppet of the main character. I still need to find a pattern for this puppet. I’m not the craftiest mom either. The book report is due on October 30. Courtney and her class had over a month to work on the report. Whenever we asked her about it all she did was talk about the puppet. This afternoon I decided that it was time for her to start the report. We logged onto her classes website to get the directions when I saw that there was also a written part to this book report. Needless to say I was a little disappointed but I did not lose my cool. That was left for my husband. He yelled at our daughter which frightened her and caused her to run to her room. She has two weeks still! I don’t understand why he overreacted like that. I am relieved that we found out as soon as we did. So this afternoon while my husband was shopping with the little ones Courtney and I got the written portion of her book report done. And she threw a fit for nothing!

Are there any crafty women reading this? I need some ideas on how to make a puppet for her report. I know how to make a sock puppet and a paper bag puppet but I’m worried that her teacher might require something more sophisticated than those.

Another week gone by. It seems like they fly even faster the older I get.

  1. Hi Cascia! Thanks for leaving a comment in my blog. I feel with you. It is a challenge for me juggling everything I do and I only have one tot around. God bless your heart. 😀I have a post about this myself some few days back 😀 http://www.marriageandbeyond.com/2008/10/10/health-benefits-of-lemon-grass-and-some-bits-and-pieces-on-being-a-wahm/

  2. my husband is like that also, when the kids have a project or a report, he wants it done right away. maybe they just don’t like cramming which i am very good at, lol.thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.cheers

  3. Oh how I wish that I was crafty!!! I am the antithesis of crafty but we get by. I sometimes feel guilty too like I am not doing enough with the little ones but we do our best.

  4. Thanks for visiting and for the comments, Jennie, Liza and Heidi. I found out that she can make a sock puppet or a paper bag puppet if she likes. That will make things a lot easier on both of us.
