Losing a Friend and Other Stories from the Zoo

I am going to try my best to set aside time this week to write.  My boys are playing nicely, all three have had their breakfast and my girls are still sleeping, so I am multi-tasking.  I am attempting to eat my breakfast while I type.  I hate multi-tasking and have never been good at it either.  Hopefully my toast and egg whites won’t get cold before I finish this. Last week was really stressful and today feels more like a Monday than a Tuesday.  Last Monday evening we found…

One Crazy Summer

Summer is supposed to be lazy, hazy, relaxing and fun.  So far my summer has been exhausting, wild, hyper, and nuts.  I wish I could sum it all up in one post, but I just can not.  The days are flying by way too quickly and I feel guilty because I promised to update this blog every day, which I haven’t. I guess I didn’t realize that by keeping the kids busy this summer I am also too busy for time to myself.  I should have thought that through before…

A Conversation With Monkey

When we were about a half an hour from home after our long family vacation to visit relatives out in Wisconsin, Monkey had some very important information to share with Chris and I. Monkey: When we get home, Dad you and Mom are going on a helicopter ride.  Parrot, Kitty and Bear are going on the helicopter too.  I am staying home and babysitting Goose. Dad: Really? Kitty: Where are we going? Can we go to Las Vegas? Monkey: You can’t go to Las Vegas because there are too many…

Physically and Emotionally Exhausted

This post is going to be a bit random because I have a lot on my mind today. So bear with me please. It has been a very busy week and this morning I woke up feeling physically and emotionally exhausted. I already know that it is going to be another one of those days. Parrot woke up at 5am with an earache so that might be why I am tired along with the fact that yesterday was physically draining.  After I got out of the shower this morning I…

The Old Lady, The Moose and Other Stories from the Zoo

A lot has happened this week and I wish I could write about everything, but in order to fit it all in one post I am going to just summarize. On Tuesday morning Monkey and I saw a moose while taking him to school.  If you follow me on facebook,  you probably saw my status message for that day.  I usually take the back roads when I drop him off at school which is about 8 miles from where we live.  One of the roads that I take runs parallel…

Memorial Day Weekend and Kitty Humor

The Talbert Zoo survived yet another Memorial Day weekend.  Despite the crappy weather we have been having out here in Spokane, Chris still managed to clean out the garage on Saturday and serve a tasty meal on the grill that evening and Sunday night. Chris is the master chef at the zoo.  He serves up some delicious and healthy meals for us and our little animals.  On Saturday he grilled turkey burgers and hot dogs and Sunday he grilled chicken legs with home made tomato-free barbecue sauce (Parrot is allergic…

Fishy Fish, Jew Water and Other Zooisms

I think the animals are going wild this week at The Talbert Zoo.  Nice weather and summer time just around the corner is contributing to the “wild-ness.”  Yesterday Monkey scared us half to death. He asked me if he could play outside but I told him that he had to wait because I was just getting out of the shower.  I had all the doors locked downstairs but the Monkey escaped. When I got down there I noticed that the sliding glass door was unlocked and Monkey was nowhere to…

My Dilemma With Parrot

It’s been almost a year since I last updated this blog.  Now that I am making major changes to The Healthy Moms Magazine I might actually have more time to write here as well.  We’ll see. I can not make any promises. Last night I had a very interesting conversation with Parrot.  Parrot is my very special little five-year-old boy with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD, formally Asperger’s).  He is extremely high-functioning and I believe he may have a genius IQ, although I haven’t had him tested yet. I heard him…

Is it May Already?

I still can not believe that it is May. The weather here has been crappy and so has my mood. Funny how that works.Growing up in Wisconsin I remember the weather being cold but never for as many months as it is up here in Northeastern Washington.  I swear the seasons up here are like this. Winter begins right around Halloween. The temperatures drop to below 50 degrees and it rains, a lot.  By January we are sick and tired of snow and cold.  If we are lucky up here…

The Broken Tooth and Other Stories From The Zoo

I have a toothache. In fact this tooth has been hurting for a couple of years now. Last Sunday as I bit into my breakfast sandwich my tooth broke in half. I think I swallowed the piece that broke off too. I still don’t know if I am going to die or get sick from swallowing a tooth, but so far I’m feeling alright. When I went to the dentist on Monday I found out that my tooth is decaying but because the break did not effect the root I…
