Why You Should Not Declaw Your Cat

You may be asking yourself why you should not declaw your cat. There are many reasons that your cat needs to not be put to sleep.

why you should not declaw your cat

The first and the most obvious reason is that cats don’t want to be declawed. They find this type of treatment painful and uncomfortable.

If you would like to try to use a painful method on your cat, you will only be making it worse. This type of treatment is meant to cut your cat’s nails off so that it can’t scratch furniture or other things around the house.

This kind of painful procedure is actually a lot more expensive than your cat actually wants to spend in his lifetime on his claws. If you have to pay for a painful treatment for a couple of years, this isn’t something that you would want to do.

Not only are the painful injections more painful for your cat, but they can also lead to infection. Cats tend to get infections quite easily when the wrong type of medication is used.

As I stated before, an expensive, painful treatment may be the last thing that you want to do to your cat. It may cost you a few hundred dollars to get a professional to come in to inspect your cat for a few weeks.

Then there is the time that it may take for the claws to fall off completely. This can be anywhere from two weeks to a couple of months. You should always consider this before you decide to have your cat removed.

Your cat’s nails can grow to be extremely long, so if you have to have them removed, be sure that they are short. That way you don’t have to worry about cutting into your cat’s toe and causing pain for several weeks. This is why you should not declaw your cat.

Your cat probably doesn’t like being clipped, either. If you are going to have him removed, have him spayed or neutered first.

If you want to spay or neuter your cat, you need to be aware of how it will affect him. Most people think that it will make their cat a little happier. However, many people will experience some side effects.

One of the side effects of neutering or spaying your cat is that your cat will be much less playful. This is because he will have no desire to run around or play with other animals. He will be much more likely to sit still.

He won’t be able to play fetch as much, either. This is a great problem if you want to play fetch with him.

Cats who have been declawed are sometimes afraid of other cats and will often hide away. Because they are less likely to play, they will have to be trained to use litter boxes instead of public areas.

Don’t choose a cat who has been declawed over another cat who has not been. Declawing may sound like a very good idea, but sometimes it may actually hurt your cat more. So it may not be right for you.

Your cat will also have problems eating because his claws will be so sore. You won’t be able to feed him the same things he would have in the wild.

Another good reason not to declaw your cat is that he may get hurt if he is mishandled. And you could actually put yourself at risk, because it is easy for him to hurt you if he tries to claw you.

Some cats can’t stand the idea of having their claws cut off, either. If that’s the case, then you might want to get him an electric collar instead of a traditional collar.

Even if you do decide to spay or neuter your cat, keep in mind that he may become happier after it’s done. It’s always best to consult your veterinarian about whether or not it’s the right thing for your cat.
