What I am going to Miss (and not miss) About Spokane

After three and a half years of living in the Inland Northwest we will be moving to Chicago in two short weeks. Spokane, Washington is the largest city in Spokane County, nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The city is located on the Spokane River just 92 miles south of Canada and 20 miles west of the Idaho state line.

Below is a list of what I am going to miss about Spokane and what I will not miss.

I will miss…

Seeing the mountains from my bedroom window.

Riverfront Park and Spokane Falls

The hills that are perfect for walking and running.

The bottom of my favorite hill to go on walks and run.

The wildlife.

The brand new elementary school down the street.

My son getting picked up for school and dropped off at our driveway.

What I am not going to miss…

Our noisy next door neighbors who play basketball outside at 2am and let their kids run around the neighborhood and play in other peoples yards unsupervised after 10pm in the summer.

The cold climate and short summers.

The infestation of fire ants in our yard.

Having to drive into the city for doctor’s appointments.

The noisy airplanes. We live 3 miles from the airport and about 5 miles from an Air Force base.

There are some things that we are going to miss about this city and others that will not be missed. Overall, we have made many, many memories here in the “Big Green House,” just west of Spokane, Washington. I am certain that we will make many more wonderful memories in our new home in the Chicago suburbs.
