The Effects of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Children

ADHD children

The Effects of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Children Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is considered to be one of the most common disorders among children in the world. Some children may not see the symptoms of the disorder until they become adults. They just continue the routines that they had been using since they were young. Best After School Activities for Your Child with ADHD

Best After School Activities for Your Child with ADHD

Finding the right activities for your child can be quite difficult if they struggle with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. Some hobbies just add to the challenges of school by requiring them to sit still for long periods of time with little to no excitement, exacerbating their already tenuous hold on their restraint. Rather than be completely restrained even more, children with ADHD need to both have a way to be active and a structure that helps them to strengthen their self-control. The activity you choose should also be something that they…

Early Prenatal Anemia May Increase Risk of Autism, ADHD

A new Swedish study suggests anemia early in pregnancy may increase the risk of autism, ADHD and intellectual disability in children. Anemia is a common condition in late pregnancy and researchers discovered anemia toward the end of pregnancy did not have the same correlation. The findings, published in JAMA Psychiatry, underscore the importance of early screening for iron status and nutrition counseling. Young Moms May Be More Likely to Have Kids with ADHD

A new study finds that young moms, particularly those under the age of 20, are more likely to have a child with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). For the study, researchers from the University of South Australia (UniSA) explored the genetic relationship between female reproductive traits and key psychiatric disorders. They found that the genetic risk of ADHD in children was strongly associated with early maternal age at first birth, especially for women younger than 20. ADHD is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder which affects a person’s ability to exert age-appropriate self-control.…

Prenatal Exposure to Air Pollution Tied to Brain Changes Often Seen in ADHD, Autism

A new Spanish study shows a link between prenatal exposure to air pollution and changes in the corpus callosum, a region of the brain associated with neurodevelopmental disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The findings are published in the journal Environmental Research. Over the past few decades, several studies have looked at the effects of air pollution on cognitive capacities in children. However, very little research has been done on the changes that air pollution could induce in children’s growing brains. The new…

ADHD and Autism Share Changes in Same Genes

Autism and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) share changes in the same genes, according to researchers from iPSYCH, Denmark’s largest psychiatry research project. For example, children with either disorder can demonstrate violent or aggressive behaviors, be impulsive, and have problems in school and with social relations. The new study, published in the journal Nature Neuroscience, reveals that the similarities between the two diagnoses can be…
