Duck…Duck…no…GOOSE

Goose says that I don’t write enough about her on this blog. So this post is dedicated to my beautiful teenage daughter, Goose. I promise I will not say anything about the other children. As I am writing this little Bear is whining and kicking my chair.  Oh I forgot I promised not to mention the other kids.  Next week Goose will finish 10th grade at the local public high school.  This year was challenging for her socially and academically but all in all I am proud of my daughter’s…

Update on Parrot…Is it Summer Yet?

On Friday Chris and I had a meeting with Parrot’s teacher.  Parrot is a very special little boy with unique educational needs so we need to make sure that the school district is meeting his needs.  If you don’t know Parrot very well you can read My Dilemma With Parrot to learn more. Inland Northwest Summer This year he is in what the school district calls, The Self Contained classroom.  This is a room of about 9 students in grades K-2, a head teacher and a teacher’s aid.  The kids…

The Old Lady, The Moose and Other Stories from the Zoo

A lot has happened this week and I wish I could write about everything, but in order to fit it all in one post I am going to just summarize. On Tuesday morning Monkey and I saw a moose while taking him to school.  If you follow me on facebook,  you probably saw my status message for that day.  I usually take the back roads when I drop him off at school which is about 8 miles from where we live.  One of the roads that I take runs parallel…

Memorial Day Weekend and Kitty Humor

The Talbert Zoo survived yet another Memorial Day weekend.  Despite the crappy weather we have been having out here in Spokane, Chris still managed to clean out the garage on Saturday and serve a tasty meal on the grill that evening and Sunday night. Chris is the master chef at the zoo.  He serves up some delicious and healthy meals for us and our little animals.  On Saturday he grilled turkey burgers and hot dogs and Sunday he grilled chicken legs with home made tomato-free barbecue sauce (Parrot is allergic…

The Weather and Other Stories from the Zoo

Weather May 24, 2013 I think it is May, but this crazy weather we are having has me wondering.  I know I have complained about the weather in Spokane before but I am going to continue to complain until we get our two months of warm temperatures. When I lived in Wisconsin I got used to the change of the seasons. We had four months of each season during the year.  I loved the variety in the weather patterns and it didn’t stay cold for very long.  Here in Spokane…

Fishy Fish, Jew Water and Other Zooisms

I think the animals are going wild this week at The Talbert Zoo.  Nice weather and summer time just around the corner is contributing to the “wild-ness.”  Yesterday Monkey scared us half to death. He asked me if he could play outside but I told him that he had to wait because I was just getting out of the shower.  I had all the doors locked downstairs but the Monkey escaped. When I got down there I noticed that the sliding glass door was unlocked and Monkey was nowhere to…

Potty Training Little Bear and Other Current Events at the Zoo

It is Monday again and my body is feeling it.  We had a nice weekend but it went by way too quickly.  Chris got home from a conference in San Antonio late Friday night.  Goose was disappointed when she got home from school and her dad wasn’t back yet.  We were all told that his flight would land in Spokane at 1 and he would be here when the kids got home from school. His original flight was over booked and the airlines gave him a choice to either fly…

My Dilemma With Parrot

It’s been almost a year since I last updated this blog.  Now that I am making major changes to The Healthy Moms Magazine I might actually have more time to write here as well.  We’ll see. I can not make any promises. Last night I had a very interesting conversation with Parrot.  Parrot is my very special little five-year-old boy with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD, formally Asperger’s).  He is extremely high-functioning and I believe he may have a genius IQ, although I haven’t had him tested yet. I heard him…
