#WordlessWednesday with #linky on a Tuesday – What we Have Been up to This Week

Wordless Wednesday is live on thehealthymoms.net and talbertzoo.com. Link up to your Wordless Wednesday post. This post is going to be a Word-full post because when I took a closer look I noticed that I haven’t updated this blog in a week. A lot happens in a week here at the Talbert Zoo. The weather here in Chicago has been cold and rainy for the past couple of days.  If I remember correctly from my 29 years living in Wisconsin this is very typical for October in the Midwest. Last…

Home of the Crazies

Yes I love my kids and all their flaws. They are not perfect and neither am I.  Why do I call it the “home of the crazies?” Chris and I always joke around that we only have one normal kid, Little Bear. We tried and tried for a normal kid and by the time we got to number 5, finally we hit the jackpot! He is a sweet little boy without any social, emotional or mental problems.  Taking care of him is easy. But I also have to deal with…

Remembering September 11

I will never forget where I was when I heard the news about the terrorist attack. Back in 2001, I was still in college. I woke up early to get my daughter ready for Head Start and myself ready for class and my job at the deli. Like a typical morning I turned on the news. I had the television on for about 10-15 minutes when I saw the whole thing televised on the Today Show. Read more on my main blog, Healthy Moms Magazine | Remembering September 11. Please…

My Thoughts…

I didn’t know what to title this post, but I do know that I should write a little something before I have to get dinner out on the table at 5 o’clock. So here is what I have been thinking about lately. “I wonder if Chris is okay and not trapped in the floods out in Phoenix” “I hope Goose figures out what she is going to do after high-school, soon. She has her priorities strait but is college really in her future?  I think I need to pray more…

A Change in Routine is Difficult for Kids with Asperger’s

It is the middle of the afternoon and the house is quiet.  I am soaking in the silence because I know that it will not be long and the peaceful rooms will be filled with yelling, screaming, crying, laughter and ruckus.   3 o’clock is my least favorite time of day. The noise starts every morning at 6am.  Parrot is usually the first one up.  He doesn’t understand that if other people are still sleeping then it is polite to be quiet so you don’t wake them. Aspie kids like…

Establishing a New Routine

Little Bear does not like change.  This move has been especially difficult for him. Before we left the Big Green House in Spokane we tossed his old, broken toddler bed.  After getting plenty of use from three boys it just wasn’t safe for any child to sleep in.  At this new house, The Big White House, Parrot has his own bedroom and Little Bear and Monkey share the bunk bed.  Monkey was thrilled about being able to sleep on the top bunk.  But this new change is not right in…

I Just Want to Be Left Alone

Do you ever get that feeling? Maybe I should clarify. You wake up one morning after a sound 8 hours of sleep, but you still just feel overwhelmed and plain tired. This was the status message I recently posted on Facebook. Moving across the country and adjusting to a new community is exhausting. There are boxes to unpack, a home to organize, new people to meet, new places to see and a whole new set of roads to learn how to drive on.  Plus add five crazy kids and a…

Welcome to Crystal Lake

It’s been a while since I have really updated this blog.  Sure I posted a #WordlessWednesday, but I know that is not enough.  Moving is stressful and for me I have a tough time with change and establishing a new routine.  But I am working on it.  I promise that as soon as I can I will  be back to updating this blog and my other one five days a week and commenting on my favorite blogs at least five days a week. We arrived at our new home in…

What I am going to Miss (and not miss) About Spokane

After three and a half years of living in the Inland Northwest we will be moving to Chicago in two short weeks.  Spokane, Washington is the largest city in Spokane County, nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The city is located on the Spokane River just 92 miles south of Canada and 20 miles west of the Idaho state line. SpokaneFromPalisades 20070614 by Mark Wagner Downtown Spokane, Washington, as viewed from Palisades Park to the west of the city.   Below is a list of what I am…

Happy Birthday Parrot

I was so excited when I found out that I was having a boy after being a mother of two girls.  I imagined how my life would be different.  Sports, cars, trucks, and rough and rowdy play time was what I thought was going to be in my future.  I was not prepared for what God decided to bless me with on July 17, 2007. After five hours of labor without any pain medicine, we welcomed a healthy baby boy.  Right away I knew he was different than most newborns.  While…
