A Not So Spring at the Zoo

May isn’t even half over yet and already it’s been a crazy month at the Talbert Zoo. We have birds living on our house and more birds in a bush less than ten feet from the house.  The weather in Chicago is not very spring like yet, with high temperatures barely reaching above 60 degrees.  We recently learned that Monkey’s medication is only making him behave worse in school. Goose’s new job has changed our regular routine, but for the better. Momma Robin Momma Robin has been sitting on her…

#WordlessWednesday with #linky on a Tuesday – School Open House

Wordless Wednesday is live on thehealthymoms.net and talbertzoo.com. Link up to your Wordless Wednesday post. This is going to be a Wordful Wednesday because I haven’t had much time to update this blog over the past week.  On April 22, Google launched a new update for how websites appear on mobile search. The Healthy Moms Magazine dropped out of the search so I have been busy overhauling the on page SEO to get my rankings back. I lost 2,000 page views a day because of this update. I’m still working hard…

A Whirlwind of a Weekend

Try saying that three times as fast as you can. It’s almost as hard as saying, “Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear, Fuzzy Wuzzy had no hair, Fuzzy Wuzzy wasn’t Fuzzy, was he?” This weekend was fun, busy and full of surprises. I don’t know where to begin. We moved to Crystal Lake from Spokane, Washington back in August.  Chris decided that we would rent a house until we could purchase a home.  We settled into a nice two story with a full basement. This home was built in the 1990’s…

Little Bear Humor

The life of a four-year-old is busy, fun and full of surprises. Little Bear has said and done some pretty silly things this past week.  Here is  a little peak inside the life of Little Bear. Little bear likes everything his way. If it doesn’t go exactly as planned he wants to start over. At breakfast.Mom: What do you want for breakfast?Bear: Oatmeal.Mom mixes the oatmeal with water and a little brown sugar and heats it up in the microwave. She then pulls it out and stirs it with a…

Tornadoes and a New Neighbor

After a gloomy day yesterday I am trying to regain a positive attitude today. But with Chris gone until Monday night, this is an enormous challenge for me.  In order to remain more positive I can not think about my weekend to-do list. A “wedge” tornado touches down near Ashton, Ill. (courtesy: Tom Purdy/@tompurdywi) Last night a series of tornadoes ripped through northern Illinois.  According to CBS Chicago, a massive “wedge” tornado virtually destroyed the town of Fairdale, Illinois, killing one woman, and injuring 11 other people. Another tornado also…

Florida Vacation Part Five

After spending five days in sunny Florida we all resemble lobsters. I guess it is time to head back up north to Chicago.  I will miss the sun, sand and surf.  We all had a great time and I created lasting memories for my kids. Today we left our hotel and headed for the island early in the morning.  We took the kids to some of the local shops and visited one that had parrots outside in cages. The parrots are very colorful and most of them repeat everything that…

Florida Vacation Part Four

I am finally caught up! Yes it is Wednesday night and I am going to remember the events of, drum roll please…today!  Our vacation is going by way too quickly, but the kids are having a good time and we are creating lasting memories. This morning Chris decided to skip the pool because the kids didn’t care for it too much yesterday. We headed out to the island bright and early around 9:30.  When we got to my parent’s resort they were not there, so we decided to go for…

Florida Vacation Part Three

Here I am once again typing on Wednesday night, and trying to recall the events of yesterday.  Here is the continuation of the Talbert Zoo’s Florida Vacation. On Tuesday the kids wanted to play in the pool in the morning.  I thought it was too cold, so I opted to sit down, relax and take pictures. Besides, I woke that morning with a sore throat and felt a cold coming on.  We also heard rumors that it snowed back in Chicago on Tuesday, or maybe it was Monday.  Anyway, we…

Florida Vacation Part Two

Now that my computer is working again I am going to try to get caught up with our Florida vacation.  It is Wednesday night as I type this but I am going to try to recall the events of Monday. Hopefully, my memory will not fail me. On Monday the forecast called for rain and clouds in the morning so we decided to skip the beach and head down to Sarasota to visit the Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium. The Mote Aquarium opened in 1980 to showcase ground-breaking marine research…

Why Do I Have Boys?

Boys. When I was a teenager I couldn’t stop thinking about them.  By the time I was in college, I found most boys obnoxious and immature. Besides, I had better things to do with my time, then. I had a little girl. I remember when my oldest brother’s boys were little.  . They were hyper, full of energy and listened to my brother and sister-in-law about half of the time.  Today, they are wonderful, handsome young men. I love my two girls. When I am alone with just my girls…
