Parrot’s Fun Facts

Parrot reads a lot and his brain is a little sponge. Currently he is reading National Geographic Kids books. They are filled with facts about anything and everything from geography to animals, space and dinosaurs. Sometimes I will be sitting down answering e mails, fixing dinner or doing housework and Parrot will approach me with a fact from a book he has read or something he learned at school. Here are a couple of facts he told me about just yesterday. He was doing what looked like a simple version…

October Catch Up at The Zoo

This month I’ve let my Talbert Zoo readers down and I apologize. It’s been a few weeks since I last updated this blog.  October is nearly over and I still am not used to my family’s school schedule yet.  It’s been a busy, crazy couple of months. I’ll try my best to catch you all up on the happenings at The Talbert Zoo. Monkey and Bear October 2013 Goose is now a junior in high-school and sometimes I can not believe that she is that old.  School has been tough…

One Crazy Summer

Summer is supposed to be lazy, hazy, relaxing and fun.  So far my summer has been exhausting, wild, hyper, and nuts.  I wish I could sum it all up in one post, but I just can not.  The days are flying by way too quickly and I feel guilty because I promised to update this blog every day, which I haven’t. I guess I didn’t realize that by keeping the kids busy this summer I am also too busy for time to myself.  I should have thought that through before…

Update on Parrot…Is it Summer Yet?

On Friday Chris and I had a meeting with Parrot’s teacher.  Parrot is a very special little boy with unique educational needs so we need to make sure that the school district is meeting his needs.  If you don’t know Parrot very well you can read My Dilemma With Parrot to learn more. Inland Northwest Summer This year he is in what the school district calls, The Self Contained classroom.  This is a room of about 9 students in grades K-2, a head teacher and a teacher’s aid.  The kids…

Fishy Fish, Jew Water and Other Zooisms

I think the animals are going wild this week at The Talbert Zoo.  Nice weather and summer time just around the corner is contributing to the “wild-ness.”  Yesterday Monkey scared us half to death. He asked me if he could play outside but I told him that he had to wait because I was just getting out of the shower.  I had all the doors locked downstairs but the Monkey escaped. When I got down there I noticed that the sliding glass door was unlocked and Monkey was nowhere to…

My Dilemma With Parrot

It’s been almost a year since I last updated this blog.  Now that I am making major changes to The Healthy Moms Magazine I might actually have more time to write here as well.  We’ll see. I can not make any promises. Last night I had a very interesting conversation with Parrot.  Parrot is my very special little five-year-old boy with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD, formally Asperger’s).  He is extremely high-functioning and I believe he may have a genius IQ, although I haven’t had him tested yet. I heard him…

Now I know Why some Stay at Home Moms Smoke and Drink

I made a sandwich with the last two slices of bread for Parrot today. When I sat it down on the table he chose to sit at a different seat instead of in front of his sandwich. Monkey asked for the same kind of sandwich but on a bagel instead. As I made Monkey’s sandwich Parrot continued to sit at the seat away from his. By the time I got to the table with Monkey’s bagel sandwich Monkey was eating Parrot’s lunch. Parrot is throwing a fit. I am going…
