Why Do I Have Boys?

Boys. When I was a teenager I couldn’t stop thinking about them.  By the time I was in college, I found most boys obnoxious and immature. Besides, I had better things to do with my time, then. I had a little girl. I remember when my oldest brother’s boys were little.  . They were hyper, full of energy and listened to my brother and sister-in-law about half of the time.  Today, they are wonderful, handsome young men. I love my two girls. When I am alone with just my girls…

Right now the jar is empty.  So, here is a preview of what we saw on Saturday.…

#WordlessWednesday with #linky on a Tuesday – Watching the Fish

Wordless Wednesday is live on thehealthymoms.net and talbertzoo.com. Link up to your Wordless Wednesday post. Parrot got a couple of goldfish from Santa and within a couple of days they died. I think he went through about six fish in a matter of weeks. So we took him to the pet store over the weekend and got him a couple of other fish. I don’t remember what they are called, but the lady at the pet store said that they are not as dirty as gold fish and they will…

My Thoughts…

I didn’t know what to title this post, but I do know that I should write a little something before I have to get dinner out on the table at 5 o’clock. So here is what I have been thinking about lately. “I wonder if Chris is okay and not trapped in the floods out in Phoenix” “I hope Goose figures out what she is going to do after high-school, soon. She has her priorities strait but is college really in her future?  I think I need to pray more…

A Change in Routine is Difficult for Kids with Asperger’s

It is the middle of the afternoon and the house is quiet.  I am soaking in the silence because I know that it will not be long and the peaceful rooms will be filled with yelling, screaming, crying, laughter and ruckus.   3 o’clock is my least favorite time of day. The noise starts every morning at 6am.  Parrot is usually the first one up.  He doesn’t understand that if other people are still sleeping then it is polite to be quiet so you don’t wake them. Aspie kids like…

Happy Birthday Parrot

I was so excited when I found out that I was having a boy after being a mother of two girls.  I imagined how my life would be different.  Sports, cars, trucks, and rough and rowdy play time was what I thought was going to be in my future.  I was not prepared for what God decided to bless me with on July 17, 2007. After five hours of labor without any pain medicine, we welcomed a healthy baby boy.  Right away I knew he was different than most newborns.  While…

A Bitter Sweet Goodbye

Yesterday was the last day of school.  For my younger kids it was time to say goodbye to the brand new school which they were excited about attending back in September. For my oldest it was time to say goodbye to the friendships that took her three years to build. I remember the first day of school just like it was yesterday.  Back then we had no idea that by June we would be planning on moving.  Snowdon Elementary was opening it’s doors for the first time.  The building was…

The Candle and Water Experiment What you will need: A tea-light candlematches (for adult use only)a platea cupwaterfood coloring (optional) Watch the video and see what happens to the water once…

Science with Parrot – Observing

One of Parrot’s special interests is science. His biggest ambition is to become a scientist who studies everything. Parrot is constantly reading and learning every single day and he has an ever growing collection of science books for kids. Today I am starting a new feature on The Talbert Zoo, titled “Science with Parrot.”  I promised my little boy that I would do more science experiments with him. So I will follow through and do an experiment on the weekends with him and write about it every Monday. The kids…
